Earplugs have long been about more than construction workers or musicians. These days they are a versatile aid for protecting your hearing and improving comfort in many different situations. From working in noisy environments to relaxing at a festival or even sleeping better, earplugs are used by a wide range of people. In this article we show in which situations earplugs, and custom earplugs in particular, are indispensable.

Whatever you use them for, you have the ear impressions for custom earplugs taken at a partner hearing centre. The ear impressions are included in the price and you pay at the hearing centre.

1. In construction and industry

In construction and industry, noise levels are often extremely high. Think of jackhammers, chainsaws, forklifts or heavy machinery. Here, earplugs are not optional but mandatory.

For construction and industry, our custom earplugs come with the DI filter, with 26 dB SNR and extra protection against high frequencies. This lets employees keep working safely and productively.

2. For musicians and DJs

Musicians, DJs and technicians are exposed to high volumes every day. Universal earplugs often reduce sound unevenly, which makes music sound unnatural.

Membrane filters in custom earplugs provide flat attenuation. The sound stays true to life and your hearing stays protected. This makes the difference between performing safely and risking tinnitus.

3. In hospitality and events

Staff in hospitality or at events often spend hours in loud music. Without good hearing protection, this quickly leads to hearing damage. With custom earplugs, they can understand customers well while harmful volume is filtered out. Visitors are also increasingly choosing festival earplugs so they can enjoy music without risk.

4. For students and concentration

Earplugs are not only used against noise, but also to create calm and help you concentrate. More and more students and office workers wear earplugs to shut out distracting background noise. This can be done with special custom earplugs that reduce sound, or even with custom-made 'sleep plugs'.

5. For sleeping and travelling

Sleep is essential for health and well-being. Snoring partners, noisy neighbours or loud hotels can disturb your night's sleep. Custom earplugs, often made of soft silicone, provide comfort and attenuation. On flights or train rides, they also help you sleep more calmly and feel less tired.

6. For swimmers and water sports

For some people, water in the ears can lead to irritation or infections. Custom swim plugs exist for this. They seal the ear canal, so less water gets into your ear. They have no filter and are meant to keep out water, not noise.
Do you need to keep water out of your ears on your doctor's advice, for example because of grommets? Then talk to your doctor first.

7. For motorcyclists and traffic

Motorcyclists often suffer from wind noise, which can easily reach 95 to 105 dB at higher speeds. Custom earplugs with special filters reduce this noise without traffic sounds disappearing. This makes riding safer and less tiring.

8. Other uses

Earplugs are also useful for DIY, shooting, going to concerts or even meditation. In short, in almost any situation where sound can be disturbing or harmful, there is a suitable solution in the form of universal or, even better, custom earplugs.
